Cygnet Cottage is in Warkworth, right on the River Coquet. It's a small, end-of-terrace house. The main thing is the view from the front: you look straight out over the river.
It's been done up recently, so everything's fresh and clean. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. Both upstairs bedrooms look out over the water. There's one bathroom upstairs.
The living room has a wood burner in the old inglenook fireplace. It's a proper one, heats the room well. The TV's a smart one and the Wi-Fi is decent fibre, so it's reliable.
Through the back is the kitchen, and off that there's a little sunroom with a table. It's a nice spot for breakfast. You get a washing machine and a dishwasher.
Outside, there's a small patio garden at the back. At the front, there's a shared lane between the house and the riverbank. You can sit out there and watch the water.
Warkworth Castle is a five-minute walk up the hill. The village has a couple of pubs that do food, a good butcher, and a small Co-op for basics.
Amble is about a mile down the road. It's a proper working harbour. You can get boat trips from there, or crab sandwiches from the shops. The Sunday market is good if you're around.
Within half an hour you've got Alnwick Castle and Gardens, which is worth a visit. The coast north of here is all good: Alnmouth, Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh. You can be walking on Bamburgh beach in about 25 minutes.
It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. You can bring up to two dogs. Bedding and towels are included.
For planning days out, these sites are useful: National Trust North East and Northumberland National Park.
