This is Hyem. It's our place in Amble. Hyem means 'home' up here, so that's what we called it.
It's a terraced house about two minutes from the harbour. You can see the sea from the top bedroom. There's a small enclosed courtyard out the back with a table.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well equipped and comfortable. The kitchen and utility room were redone a few years ago. There's a washing machine and a coffee machine. The living room has a wood burner. You can get logs locally.
It's good for kids. We've left a travel cot, a highchair, and two stairgates. Pets are welcome, we allow up to two.
Amble itself is a proper working harbour. There's a good butcher, a bakery, and a famous fish and chip shop right on the quayside. The pub is about 500 yards away. On Sundays there's a market on the old quayside.
The beach is a short walk. From the harbour you can see Coquet Island and Warkworth Castle up the river. It's a good base for the coast. You can walk to Warkworth along the beach if the tide's out, or it's a short drive.
For days out, Warkworth Castle is managed by English Heritage. The whole coastline is protected as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Alnwick Castle and Gardens are about a 20 minute drive. Craster and Dunstanburgh Castle are maybe half an hour north.
Facilities are all there: WiFi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking for one car on the street directly outside.
