The Old Wash House is in Amble, on the Northumberland coast. It's a one-room studio cottage, so it sleeps two. It's stone-built and from the 1600s, so it's got low ceilings and that sort of thing. The rating is 3 Star. That means it's comfortable and has what you need, but it's not a luxury hotel.
The bed is in the same space as the living area, and the kitchen is along one wall. There's a walk-in shower. The garden has a patio and lawn, and a fire pit you can use. It's fully enclosed, which is good if you've got dogs. We allow up to two pets.
Amble is a working harbour town. There are a couple of supermarkets, some pubs that do food, and independent shops. The Harbour Village has small stalls selling local things. It's a five-minute walk to the beach and the marina.
Coquet Island is just off the coast. It's an RSPB reserve, so you can see puffins and other seabirds. You can take boat trips around it from the harbour. For more wildlife, Druridge Bay and the Hauxley Nature Reserve are a short drive south.
Alnmouth is about six miles north. It's a quieter village with a good golf course and nice walks along the estuary. Alnwick is about seven miles inland. The castle is there, along with the gardens. The castle was in Harry Potter. The town has Barter Books, which is a huge second-hand bookshop in an old station.
For longer walks, you're on the Northumberland Coast Path. You can walk to Warkworth Castle in one direction or up towards Boulmer in the other. The road up to the Scottish borders and places like Bamburgh Castle is very straightforward from here.
In the cottage, bedding and towels are included. There's Wi-Fi, a TV, and a washing machine. The entrance is level and there's a walk-in shower, so it can work for someone with limited mobility, but please check with us about your specific needs as it's an old building.
