Melrose

Melrose is a ground floor apartment right in the middle of Amble. It's on the main street, but the bedroom's at the back so it's quiet. You park round the back, off the road. There's a locked shed for bikes or a motorbike. It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well kept.

The rooms are big, which is nice. There's a drying area out the back for wet coats or walking gear. Everything's on one level, so no stairs to worry about.

You're a few minutes walk from everything. The harbour is about five minutes away. There are a couple of good fish and chip shops there, and some nicer restaurants. The Sunday market at the harbour is worth a look. You can get boat trips from there out to Coquet Island to see the puffins.

You can walk to Warkworth along the river path. It's a nice village with a big castle. The view of the castle from Amble harbour is good on a clear day.

Further afield, Alnwick Castle is about a twenty minute drive. That's the Harry Potter one. Heading north, the coast is really beautiful. Beaches like Bamburgh and Embleton are within half an hour. Holy Island is about forty minutes, but you must check the tide times for the causeway.

If you go inland, you can get to parts of Hadrian's Wall, like Corbridge, in under forty minutes. For walkers, you're right on the edge of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Facilities: there's a dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
