The Cartlodge is on our farm, Meadow Farm, just outside Hickling village. It's a converted barn, about two hundred years old, but it's all been done up inside. It's just for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well equipped and comfortable.
You get your own enclosed garden with a table and chairs. There's private parking right outside, and an electric vehicle charger if you need it. Inside, it's open plan. The stairs to the sleeping area are a proper ship's ladder, steep and narrow. Fine if you're okay with that, but not ideal for anyone less mobile.
We allow up to two dogs. There's a stairgate, bicycle storage, and the usual things like a TV, wifi, dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included.
The farm has a small, private Caravan Club site in a separate field, so you might see a few caravans. It's generally quiet.
Hickling Broad is very close. You can walk to the nature reserve from here. It's good for birdwatching, sailing, or hiring a day boat. The village has two pubs that do food, both within walking distance. One has a small shop.
For the coast, Sea Palling and Waxham beaches are about a ten minute drive. They're sandy and often have seals. Horsey Gap is a bit further along, where you can see the seals on the beach, especially in the winter pupping season.
If you want a trip out, Norwich is under an hour's drive. It's got the cathedral, the castle, and all the shops. For a steam train, you've got the Bure Valley Railway at Wroxham or the North Norfolk Railway at Sheringham. There are some big National Trust houses nearby too, like Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall.
