Sutton Windmill

Sutton Windmill is on the edge of Sutton village. It's a converted windmill, so it's tall. Taller than it looks from the road. You get the whole thing to yourselves, plus the garden at the base.

It sleeps eight. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, but they're spread over the floors. The stairs are proper windmill stairs. They're not dangerous, but they're steep and go round in a spiral. You need to be steady on your feet. The views from the top floors are very good. You can see fields and a bit of the coast.

It's got a 5 Star rating. That means everything is new and works well. The renovation was finished a couple of years ago. There's underfloor heating and a wood burner. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you have dogs. You can bring up to two.

The local shop is in Stalham, about two and a half miles away. There's a pub and a restaurant about a mile down the road. For the beach, Sea Palling is the closest, about a fifteen minute drive. It's sandy with dunes. Waxham and Horsey are a bit further, but quieter. From November to January, you can see the grey seal colony at Horsey having their pups.

For the Broads, Sutton Staithe is the nearest point to get onto the water. You can hire day boats there. Wroxham is about nine miles away, which is where most of the boating hire is. Norwich is about forty minutes by car if you need a city, or Great Yarmouth for the classic seaside stuff.

Facilities: everything you'd expect is here. Washing machine, wifi, TV, parking for a couple of cars. Bedding and towels are included. There's a highchair if you need one.

Useful links: Visit the Broads for boating and walking info. The National Trust page for Horsey Seal Colony has details on visiting the seals.
