Lighthouse Cottage is in Happisburgh, right by the coast. It's the old lighthouse keeper's house, attached to the working lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is red and white striped and you'll see it in all the postcards. It was built in the 1790s, so the walls are thick and the windows are deep.
It sleeps five people in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped, not just a basic shell. The stairs are a typical cottage style, so they're not the shallowest.
Down in the cellar, we've made it into a sort of den. It's a room for kids to play in, or for storing sandy boots. It's not a proper bedroom.
The views are the main thing. You look straight out to sea from the front, and over the fields from the back. On a clear day you can see for miles. The lighthouse is open to the public on some Sundays in the summer, and you can climb to the top.
You're on the coast path straight from the gate. The beach is sandy but the cliffs are eroding, so you need to pay attention to the signs. There's a shop and a pub about half a mile away in the village.
For a day out, Wroxham on the Broads is about 12 miles for boats and day trips. Norwich is 20 miles for proper shopping and the cathedral.
Facilities: it's got a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and WiFi. The garden is enclosed. We allow up to two well-behaved dogs. There's on-site parking, a cot, and a highchair if you need them. Bedding and towels are included.
