This is Halcyon. It's a houseboat, moored on the River Ant in Stalham Staithe. It doesn't move, it's fixed to the land. So you get the feeling of being on the water without having to steer it anywhere.
It sleeps six, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's modern and well equipped. It's open plan inside, so it's one main living space. Everything is compact. You step out from the living area onto a small platform with a couple of chairs.
There’s a shared grass area along the riverbank with a barbecue. You get your own picnic bench there. You can fish right there from the bank. The boatyard next door hires out motor launches if you want to go exploring on the water.
The Staithe itself is small. There's a restaurant right by the moorings. The town of Stalham is about half a mile away for shops and a pub. The Norfolk Broads Museum is just across the river, a short walk or row.
It’s on a river, so you will see insects. The Wi-Fi is fine for browsing.
For days out, Wroxham – the main town for the Broads – is about eight miles. The coast at Sea Palling is about five miles for a beach day. Norwich is about a 40 minute drive for a city day. Useful links if you’re planning: the Broads Authority for navigating, and the National Trust in Norfolk for local places.
Facilities: bedding and towels are included. There’s parking on site. It’s wheelchair accessible to get inside. You can bring up to two pets.
