The Old Reading Room
The Old Reading Room is in Salhouse village. It's a detached little building, one room wide. It was built in 1897 for the Queen's Jubilee and we finished a full refurbishment in 2023. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's very comfortable and everything is new, but it's still just one room downstairs and one bedroom up.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. A wood burner in the main room for colder nights. The kitchen has what you need. Outside is a private, sunny courtyard garden with a table and chairs.
The village pub is a five minute walk. They do food. The local shop is in Wroxham, about three miles away.
You can walk to Salhouse Broad from the front door in a couple of minutes. It's a nice spot to watch the boats. The whole area is good for walking and cycling from the doorstep.
Wroxham is the closest big place, about five minutes by car. That's where you hire boats or get on a trip boat for the Broads. They've got shops and cafes there too.
For a day out, you're about half an hour from three things: the coast, the city, or the Broads proper. The beaches at Sea Palling, Horsey and Winterton are sandy and quiet. Cromer and Wells-next-the-Sea are busier seaside towns. Norwich has the cathedral, the castle museum, and all the shops. For the Broads, The Broads Authority website has useful information.
The place takes two well-behaved dogs. Parking is right next to the cottage. All bedding and towels are included. There's wifi and a TV.
