Heron is one of four lodges right on the river Bure in Hoveton. It's detached, so you've got your own space. The design is upside-down. The living area and kitchen are upstairs to make the most of the view.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms. It has a 4 Star rating.
The main thing is the river. You get a lawned area right by the water. There's a furnished balcony off the living room. You can sit out there and watch the boats go by. It's peaceful.
A day motor launch for eight people is included free with your stay for most of the year, which is a big plus. You can moor it right outside. There's a charge for it during Whitsun and the summer holidays, but it's a reduced rate from the owner.
If you fish and have a licence, you can use the owner's other riverfront stretches nearby. They have pet life jackets available if you need them, for a refundable deposit.
Wroxham, known as the 'Capital of the Broads', is a few minutes' walk. There are shops, cafes, and restaurants there. The nearest shop is about 500 yards away.
For getting about, the area is good for walking and cycling. The boatyard next door runs organised trips if you don't want to pilot the launch yourself. The Norfolk coast with its beaches is about a thirty minute drive. Cromer and Sheringham are up that way.
Norwich is under ten miles south if you want a city day. It has the cathedral, castle, shops, and places to eat. The National Trust's Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall are both within easy reach by car.
Facilities: it has parking, WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if you need one. Up to three dogs are welcome.
