Red Steads Cottage

Red Steads Cottage is on a working farm near Longhoughton. It’s part of Lord Howick's estate. You get to it down a private road. It’s mid-terraced, so it’s attached to a couple of others. The views from the front are over walled gardens and fields. It’s quiet.

It sleeps five. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. It’s a 3 Star place, so it’s clean and comfortable but not high-end. The living room has French doors which make it feel light. You can open them if the weather's good.

Because it’s on the estate, you get a key for the locked gates. That lets you wander through the grounds properly. There’s a path that goes straight down to Sugar Sands Bay and Howick Cove. The beach at Rumbling Kern is good too, and you can walk from there along to Craster.

Howick Hall Gardens are right there. You can visit and have a cup of tea at the Earl Grey Tea House. The coastal cycle route goes past the end of the drive if you’re bringing bikes.

Alnmouth is about ten minutes in the car. Alnwick with the castle and the famous treehouse is about fifteen minutes. Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands are within half an hour. For a longer day, Newcastle is roughly forty minutes away.

For facilities, it’s got what you’d expect: a washing machine, dishwasher, TV. There’s bike storage. Bedding is included. There’s parking right outside. You can bring one dog.
