The Old Workshop

The Old Workshop is in Appledore, on a traffic-free lane. It's a two-storey cottage converted from an old sail loft. The front door opens straight onto the street, but the road is very quiet.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom downstairs. It's got a 4 Star rating. Things are all on one level except the bedrooms, which are up a flight of stairs with a small landing. They're galleried, so the bedrooms look down into the living area. You might hear people moving about in the morning if anyone gets up early.

The main room is open plan: kitchen, dining, and sitting area all together. The ceilings are high. There are twin French doors at the back that open out to a fully enclosed courtyard garden. There's a raised patio with pear trees. It's a nice spot in the sun. Please be aware that the garden is on a different level to the house.

There's a washing machine and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. We don't have allocated parking, but you can usually find a space in the nearby streets. There's also a large public car park in the village, a short walk away.

Appledore is a fishing village at the mouth of the Torridge. The quay is a few minutes' walk from the cottage. You can look across the water to Instow and catch the passenger ferry over there when it's running. The local beach is about a mile away.

Westward Ho! is about two miles along the coast. That's the main surfing beach with the pebble ridge. The South West Coast Path runs right past it. For local walks and places to visit, the North Devon National Landscape site has good information.

Within about half an hour's drive you can get to Bideford, the big beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde, or onto Exmoor. Barnstaple is about nine miles for bigger shops.

No pets, sorry.
