Copperfield is my house in Bideford. It's a big Victorian place, detached, looking across the river to the town. It sleeps fourteen, so it's good for a family group or a few friends. Seven bedrooms, five bathrooms. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well done up and comfortable.
The view from the front rooms is the main thing. You look right over the River Torridge to Bideford. The pastel houses on the quay look nice when the sun's on them.
Outside, there's a good sized garden, a patio area with a fire pit, and an outdoor heated swimming pool. It's fenced. The pool is heated from May to the end of September. There's also a hot tub. Inside, there's a cinema room with a big screen and projector. It's got gaming consoles too, if that's your thing.
Things you should know: it's on three floors. The stairs are normal house stairs, not too steep. Because it's a big old house, the rooms are spread out. That's good for privacy, but something to be aware of if you've got very small children or someone with mobility issues. We provide a cot, a highchair, and a stairgate.
You're two minutes from the Tarka Trail for walking or cycling. Bideford town centre is a ten minute walk. There's a shop and a pub about a quarter of a mile away.
For beaches, Westward Ho! is about three miles. It's a big sandy beach, good for surfing. Instow is two miles, it's quieter. The bigger surf beaches like Croyde and Woolacombe are a bit further, maybe a twenty-five minute drive. You can get a boat from Bideford to Lundy Island if you want to see the seals and birds.
Local stuff: Clovelly is a fifteen minute drive. It's a steep, cobbled fishing village. You pay to enter. The Hartland Peninsula is wild. Hartland Quay and the lighthouse are worth seeing. There are National Trust places like Arlington Court nearby. For a garden, RHS Rosemoor is about a twenty minute drive.
The facilities list is mostly what you'd expect: dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, parking for several cars. You can bring up to two dogs. All bedding and towels are included.
