The Captain's House is in Instow, right on the seafront. It's one of a pair of villas. The view is the main thing: you look straight out over the River Torridge estuary to Appledore. The beach is a short walk down the road.
It sleeps ten people, which is why it's big. Five bedrooms, three bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating. It's well looked after. The stairs are steep and a bit narrow in places, just so you know.
There's an enclosed garden at the back with a patio. You get parking on site. The house has a washing machine, a dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
Instow itself has a shop, a few pubs, and places to eat. The beach is sandy and good for families. You can sail or fish from here. The Tarka Trail starts practically on the doorstep, which is great for walks or bike rides along the estuary.
Across the water is Appledore. It's a ten minute drive via the bridge, or there's a passenger ferry in season. It's an old fishing village with narrow streets. Westward Ho! beach, which is good for surfing, is about a fifteen minute drive. Bideford is two miles away for bigger shops.
If you're planning days out, these sites are useful: National Trust Devon and the official Tarka Trail information. For boat trips to Lundy Island, check The Landmark Trust's Lundy page.
