The Red Barn

The Red Barn is in Ashford, just outside Barnstaple. It's a converted barn, attached to our own house on one side. You get the whole barn and the garden to yourselves. It's private.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with their own bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. It's not huge, but it's been done thoughtfully.

The main room is open plan. Kitchen at one end, sitting area with the wood burner at the other. The stairs are a bit steep, like most barn conversions.

The garden is a good size, enclosed, and gets the sun in the afternoon. There's a patio with a table.

You can walk down to the River Taw in about ten minutes. That’s where you pick up the Tarka Trail if you're cycling or walking.

For the beach, Saunton Sands is about a fifteen minute drive. It's a long, flat beach, good for walking and surfing. The South West Coast Path is accessible from there or from other points along the coast like Westward Ho! or Croyde.

Barnstaple is three miles away. It's got all the main shops, a pannier market, and places to eat. Braunton is closer, about ten minutes, for smaller shops and cafes.

In terms of what's here: there's the wood burner, a dishwasher, WiFi, parking right outside, and a travel cot. You can bring one dog.

If you're planning days out, the National Trust has several properties nearby, like Arlington Court. Exmoor is about half an hour's drive to the east.
