Tillerman Cottage (Appledore) Devon

Tillerman Cottage is in Appledore. It's a terraced cottage, part of a row. It's an old building, from the early 1800s, and it's Grade 2 listed.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one double and one with twin beds. There's a shower room up there too. The stairs are accessed through a barn-style door in the kitchen. They're fairly steep, as you'd expect.

Downstairs is one open space. A living room with a sofa, TV, and a gas fire that looks like coal. Then the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has what you'll need, including a coffee machine. There's another of those gas coal effect burners in there too.

Out the back is a small, walled courtyard. It's private. There's a table and chairs out there. The door to the outside toilet is also in the courtyard.

The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and has character, but it's not huge. Everything is included: bedding, towels, WiFi. There's a washing machine. You can bring one dog.

Appledore itself is a conservation area. The streets are narrow and winding. There are pubs, cafes, and some interesting little shops. It's a good place to just wander around. Bideford is two miles away for bigger shops.

The beach at Westward Ho! is about two miles. It's sandy, good for surfing. You can see Lundy Island from there. Instow beach is on the other side of the estuary. You can get the ferry or drive.

For walking or cycling, the Tarka Trail is right there. It's a path on an old railway line. The South West Coast Path is also close by, if you want proper coastal walks.

Within half an hour you've got the Big Sheep and Milky Way parks for families. There's the Royal North Devon Golf Club nearby. You can get to Dartmoor or Exmoor in under an hour if you want a day out.

A few useful links if you're looking things up: National Trust Devon, South West Coast Path, and for the Tarka Trail, the Tarka Trail Trust site.
