The Orchard

The Orchard is a bungalow just outside Bideford. It's detached, so no neighbours on the other side of a wall. The main thing is the view. You look right out over the River Torridge towards the town.

It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. Two have super king beds that can be split into singles if you need, and one's a standard king. There's a main bathroom and one bedroom has its own ensuite shower. Everything's on one level, which is handy.

The driveway up to it is quite steep. There's plenty of parking at the top, though. You can get to the front door either by steps or a ramp.

Inside, the kitchen is big, with a table and a sofa. The appliances like the washing machine and fridge are in a separate utility room next door. The lounge has doors out to a big deck. You'll spend most of your time out there if the weather's alright, just looking at the river.

The garden is lawned and enclosed. You can bring two dogs.

Bideford itself is a five minute drive, or a decent walk. It's got the usual shops and a few pubs along the riverfront. The nearest proper beaches are at Instow and Westward Ho!, which are about ten minutes away by car.

For walking or cycling, the Tarka Trail is very close. You can pick it up just down the hill and go along the old railway line towards Barnstaple one way or Instow the other. The South West Coast Path is nearby too.

If you want a day trip, you can get the boat from Bideford out to Lundy Island. It's a good full day out. Further afield, Exmoor is about half an hour's drive, and places like Clovelly or the beaches at Woolacombe are within reach.

It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's well kitted out. There's a wood burner, wifi, a cot and highchair if you need them. All the bedding and towels are included.
