The Orchard is a bungalow in Bideford. It's detached. It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. There's one main bathroom and an ensuite shower off the main bedroom. We allow up to two dogs.
It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable.
The big thing here is the view. You're looking right out over the River Torridge towards the town. You get that from the living room, the main bedroom, and especially from the big decking area outside.
Inside, it's all on one level. The kitchen diner is a good size, with a table and a sofa. The appliances like the washing machine and dishwasher are in a separate utility room next to it. The living room has a wood burner and patio doors out to the deck.
A couple of things to know. The driveway down to the house is quite steep. The access to the front door is either by steps or a ramp, which is handy. The garden is enclosed, mainly lawn beyond the decking.
Bideford has what you need. Shops, pubs, a few places to eat. It's a proper working town with a quay.
For the beach, Westward Ho! and Instow are about ten minutes' drive. They're good, sandy beaches. The South West Coast Path is right there for walking. The Tarka Trail is very popular for cycling or a flat walk. You can pick it up on this side of the river and go towards Instow and Barnstaple.
If you want a day trip, boats go from Bideford quay over to Lundy Island. It's a special place for wildlife. Inland, Exmoor National Park is about half an hour's drive. For a bigger day out, the surf beaches at Croyde and Woolacombe are within half an hour, maybe forty minutes depending on traffic.
In terms of what's here: all the bedding and towels are included. There's parking for a few cars on the driveway. It has WiFi. There's a cot and a highchair if needed. The place is wheelchair accessible at the entrance.
Useful links: the National Trust looks after a lot of the coast nearby, and North Devon National Landscape has information on the area. For Exmoor, the National Park site is good for planning.
