The Cartlinhay is one of four barns converted into cottages on a working farm near Hallspill. It's on a long private lane, so it's quiet. You look out over the River Torridge and the Iron Bridge. Your bit is a ground floor flat with its own courtyard out the back. There's a shared green for dogs and kids to run about.
It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's all on one level, which is good if steps are tricky. The shower is a walk-in.
The farm is about two miles from Bideford. It's a proper market town with a pannier market and a quay. For beaches, Westward Ho! and Instow are about four miles away. The sand at Westward Ho! is good for surfing. Instow is more of an estuary village, good for a quiet paddle.
The Tarka Trail is right nearby. It's a path on an old railway line, so it's flat. Good for walking or cycling. You can follow it along the river to Instow, or go the other way towards Barnstaple.
If you want a day out, you can get the boat from Bideford to Lundy Island. It's a nature reserve. The Big Sheep is a farm park for kids, and the Ultimate Adventure Centre does coasteering and surf lessons if that's your thing. Further on, the big surfing beaches are Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe, all within about a 40 minute drive.
For facilities, you've got the basics: parking, wifi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's a barbecue in the courtyard. You can bring up to two dogs.
