The Smithy
The Smithy is a barn conversion on our farm, just outside Pickering. It's a ground floor place, all on one level, which is handy. There's a private garden out the back with a table and a barbecue.
It sleeps two. One bedroom with a super king bed, which can be made into two singles if you ask beforehand. The bathroom is attached to the bedroom. It's got a bath with a shower over it. The main room is open plan, with the kitchen, a dining table, and the sitting area all together. There's a stone fireplace with a wood burner, and the ceiling has the old beams showing. We've left a selection of books, games, and DVDs there for guests to use.
The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. Everything else is what you'd expect: TV, WiFi, parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and a highchair.
You're on the edge of the fields here. The footpath into Pickering takes about fifteen minutes on foot, or it's two minutes in the car. The town has the usual shops, a few pubs, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway station. North Yorkshire Moors Railway is worth a look if you like steam trains.
For a big day out, you're well placed. The North York Moors National Park starts about a ten minute drive away. The coast at Whitby or Scarborough is about forty minutes. York is roughly the same drive in the other direction. Pickering Castle is an English Heritage site in the town.
We've got a bigger shared garden on the farm with a play area, if that's useful. The other cottages here are often booked together by groups.
