Pan Cottage is in Middleton, near Pickering, North Yorkshire. It's a one-bedroom cottage for two people, built around 1750. It was a small farmhouse originally.
You get a designated parking bay. The driveway is narrow, so larger vehicles might struggle. There's a bike shed by the parking area and a small patio with a table for two.
Inside, it's compact. The kitchen has what you need for basic meals and opens into a dining area. The living room is separate, with a sofa, armchair, and a small woodburning stove. It's called a "hobbit" stove. It heats the room well. The stairs are the original wooden cottage stairs, so they're a bit steep and winding.
Upstairs is one kingsize bedroom with a decent wardrobe. The bathroom is also upstairs.
It's a 4 Star place. That means it's comfortable and well-kept, not modern luxury. We allow up to two pets.
Middleton is quiet. There's a pub that does food, a tearoom, and a village shop. Pickering is the nearest proper town, about a mile and a half away. They've got supermarkets, a castle, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train which goes to Whitby.
The cottage is on the edge of the North York Moors. Dalby Forest is close for walking or cycling. The coast is about a 40-minute drive. Scarborough, Filey, Whitby, and Robin Hood's Bay are all within reach for a day out.
Further afield, within about 30 minutes, you've got Malton for food markets, and Castle Howard. The North York Moors National Park website is useful for walking routes. For the steam railway, check North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Facilities included are: WiFi, TV, washing machine, bedding and towels, the woodburning stove, and the parking and bike storage. The cottage is decorated for Christmas if you book over that period.
