The Swiss Cottage is in the middle of Pickering. It's a proper town cottage, so you're right in it, which is handy. There's a pub about a minute's walk down the street.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. That's one big bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a separate shower room downstairs by the kitchen. The stairs are a bit steep, to be expected. The top bedroom is under the eaves, so mind your head.
The back garden is a good size and enclosed, which is useful if you're bringing a dog. There's a summer house out there too. We leave a dog bed, bowls, and a hose-off thing for muddy paws.
Pickering's a nice little market town. The main street with shops and cafes is less than ten minutes on foot. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway station is about five minutes away. The steam train goes from here all the way to Whitby. They do a Santa special in December. The town also has a big War Weekend event where everyone dresses up.
For getting out, you're right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Dalby Forest is about ten minutes in the car, good for walking and cycling. Go Ape is there if that's your thing. Malton, which calls itself a food town, is a fifteen-minute drive. Castle Howard is about twenty minutes away.
The coast is about half an hour's drive. Whitby, Scarborough, those sorts of places. Flamingoland theme park is less than ten minutes away.
In terms of what's here, it's all the standard stuff. Washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, bedding is included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. The living room has an open fire.
