Owl Cottage

Owl Cottage is on our working beef farm near High Marishes. It's a semi-detached barn conversion. It sleeps two in one bedroom, with a shower room. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped.

The main room is open plan. Kitchen, dining area, and seating all in one space. There's a TV and WiFi. The floors are stone and there are some original beams overhead. The doors lead out to an enclosed patio with a table and chairs. You look out over fields. We do see owls here in the evenings.

The stairs to the bedroom are spiral and quite narrow. Something to be aware of if you have mobility issues or a lot of luggage. Everything is on the ground floor except the bedroom, which is up those stairs.

You're on the edge of Dalby Forest here, which is good for walking and cycling. The North York Moors National Park authority site has trail maps. The village of Thornton-le-Dale is a couple of miles away, it's a typical pretty Yorkshire spot.

Malton is about a 20 minute drive. They have a lot of food shops and a monthly food market. Castle Howard is maybe 25 minutes away. For a day out, York is under an hour's drive. The coast at Scarborough or Whitby is about the same.

Facilities: there's parking right by the cottage. The patio is enclosed. You've got a dishwasher, bike storage, and a BBQ. Bedding and towels are included. It's a working farm, so you'll see and hear cattle sometimes. No pets allowed.
