This house is called Lockton. It’s one of a row of cottages on Hungate in Pickering. There are several cottages here, all around shared gardens, so you’ll see other guests sometimes. The gardens are nice, quiet, and well-kept.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. The good bit is each bedroom has its own bathroom, so three bathrooms in total. That makes it easier with a few couples or a family. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well looked after. The owners, Mike and Sue, have been doing this a long time and it shows. They leave things like logs for the wood burner and menus from local places.
Pickering is a five minute walk away. There’s a shop, a few pubs, and a swimming pool just down the road. The main thing here is you’re right by the North York Moors. For walking, you can practically start from the doorstep. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is in the town. It’s a steam train that goes through the moors to Grosmont, which is a good day out if you like that sort of thing.
By car, you can get to a lot. Dalby Forest is about 15 minutes away for cycling or walking. The coast at Whitby or Scarborough is about a half hour drive. Robin Hood’s Bay is similar. York is about 40 minutes if you want a city day. For National Trust places, you’ve got Nunnington Hall not far, or you can go further to the coast.
In the house, you’ve got the usual things: a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. There’s parking on site. The garden is enclosed, and there’s a shared play area for kids with a swing and a playhouse. You can bring one dog.
