The Ridings is our cottage in Thornton le Dale. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. It sleeps seven, which it does with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. One pet is allowed.
The garden is a proper size. It's lawned and enclosed. There's a summer room with a table that looks out onto it, which is nice if the weather's a bit iffy but you still want that feeling of being outside. Parking is on the driveway, so you don't have to worry about finding a space.
Inside, it's a traditional cottage. That means the rooms are a good size but the ceilings are a normal cottage height, so watch your head if you're tall. There's a wood burning stove for cooler evenings. We provide the bedding and towels.
The village itself is very pretty. There's a stream, a green with old stocks, and a few shops and pubs. It's quiet and good for a straightforward walk from the door.
Pickering is a couple of miles away. It's a proper market town with a castle and the North York Moors Railway. You can get the steam train from there into the moors. Dalby Forest is about a ten minute drive. They have walking and cycling trails and a Go Ape course.
You're about half an hour from the coast. Scarborough is that way, Whitby is a bit further. York is about 40 minutes by car if you fancy a city day.
If you're looking into things to do, these sites are useful: North York Moors National Park, National Trust Yorkshire, and English Heritage.
Facilities are all the usual things: TV, dishwasher, washing machine, enclosed garden, parking. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
