The Ridings

The Ridings is in Thornton le Dale. It’s a detached cottage, set back a bit from the road. You've got your own driveway, which can fit two cars. That's a plus in summer.

It sleeps seven. Four bedrooms upstairs, two bathrooms. One’s a family bathroom and the other’s an en-suite shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped, not a new build. The stairs are standard.

The garden is a good size, fully enclosed and lawned. There's a summer room with a table that looks out onto it. Good for if the weather turns.

The village has a couple of shops, a bakery, and a few pubs that do food. The beck runs through, which is nice. You can walk from the door into the lanes or up onto the moor edge.

Pickering is two miles away. It’s a proper market town with shops, a castle, and the North York Moors Railway station. The steam train goes from there through to Whitby.

You're right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Dalby Forest is about ten minutes by car. They've got walking and cycling trails and the Go Ape thing. Flamingo Land is the same sort of distance.

For the coast, Scarborough is about half an hour's drive. Whitby is maybe forty minutes, depending on traffic. York is about forty-five minutes, the other way.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. The entrance is level and there's a ground floor loo, which makes it workable for wheelchair users. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
