Mill Cottage is in Pickering, just on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a very old, grade II listed building, so it's full of character but that means some things are a bit quirky. The stairs are quite steep and narrow, which is normal for a cottage like this.
It sleeps four. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one with a large sleigh bed and one with twin beds. The bathroom is downstairs, it has a modern shower. There's a wood burner in the living room, which is nice on a cooler evening. The kitchen is separate and has what you need.
You can park your car right outside, which is useful. The town centre, with shops, cafes, and a couple of pubs, is about a ten minute walk. The North York Moors National Park website is good for walking routes.
It's a good spot for getting out. You can walk from the door onto the moors. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train starts in Pickering and goes to Whitby. It's a nice day out. Dalby Forest is about a fifteen minute drive for cycling or walking trails.
The coast is about a half hour drive. Whitby and Scarborough are the main ones, Robin Hood's Bay is smaller. For a big day out, Castle Howard or Flamingo Land are within half an hour.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, WiFi, TV, and the bedding and towels are included. It's rated 4 Star. Sorry, no pets. The cottage is on one level except for the bedrooms, and the front door has a shallow step.
