Right, so this is Glaisdale. It's one of a group of holiday cottages here on Hungate, in Pickering. You go through a big black gate off the street and it's all gardens and courtyards back here. It's quiet. You wouldn't know you were in the middle of town.
The cottage sleeps five. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean, comfortable, well looked after. There's a woodburning stove and they provide the logs. It's open plan downstairs.
The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. Parking is on site.
You've got the shared gardens to use. There's a play area for kids with a swing and a Wendy house. The owners, Mike and Sue, live on site and are helpful if you need anything. They've got menus from the local places.
Pickering town centre is a couple of minutes walk. There's a local pub. The swimming pool is about three minutes away. The big thing here is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The station is in the town. You can get the steam train to Grosmont, through the moors. It's good.
You're right on the edge of the North York Moors. Dalby Forest is about ten minutes drive for cycling and walking. The coast is within half an hour. Whitby's about 25 miles, with the Abbey and the harbour. Scarborough is 17 miles. York is about 26 miles, so under an hour.
For places like Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey, or the coast, it's all within a 30 to 40 minute drive really.
