This is Levisham, at Hungate Cottages in Pickering. It's a row of old outbuildings that Sue and Mike converted. They've been doing it for years and they're good at it. The cottages are set back behind a big black gate, so you get a quiet garden to yourselves even though you're right in the town.
It sleeps six, in three bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after. The floors are a bit uneven in places, it's that kind of building.
Pickering is a small market town. There's a shop, a few pubs, and the castle is just up the road. The outdoor swimming pool is a three minute walk. The big thing here is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The station is about a five minute walk from the cottage. You can get a steam train right from the town out onto the moors.
You're basically on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Dalby Forest is about a fifteen minute drive for walking and cycling. The coast at Whitby or Scarborough is about forty minutes by car. Rievaulx Terrace and the abbey are nearby. York is about forty-five minutes away if you want a city day.
For facilities: there's a wood burner with free logs, a washing machine, dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking on site. You can bring one dog. The garden is enclosed and there's a play area with a swing and a den for children.
