Hungate Garden Cottage

This is Hungate Garden Cottage in Pickering. It's one of several cottages converted from some old stone outbuildings and stables. They're set around a shared, walled garden, which is very nice and peaceful. You can't see the road from here. You get your own private garden bit with a patio and a barbecue.

It sleeps ten. Five bedrooms, three bathrooms. One of the bathrooms is a wet room on the ground floor, which is also set up for wheelchair access. The whole place is fairly accessible, there are grab rails and things, but it's still an old building with some steps and different levels. The stairs inside are normal, not a spiral or anything. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped.

Pickering town centre is a couple of minutes walk. There's a supermarket there, pubs, cafes, the usual. The swimming pool is close by. The North York Moors Railway station is right in the town, which is a big attraction for steam train trips.

The location is good for getting out. You're right on the edge of the North York Moors. Dalby Forest is about fifteen minutes by car for walking and cycling. For a day at the coast, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay are roughly half an hour's drive. Scarborough is a bit further. York is about forty minutes away, which has everything you'd expect from a city.

There are plenty of historical places within easy reach too, like Rievaulx Abbey or Castle Howard.

Facilities wise: it's got everything you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, wood burning stove with logs supplied. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. There's parking right outside the cottage. You can bring one dog.
