Squirrel Cottage

Squirrel Cottage. It's down a quiet lane in Thornton le Dale. It's a semi-detached cottage, built in the 1890s. You get a small patio garden at the back.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms which is handy. It's got a 3 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and clean. The stairs are cottage stairs, so they're a bit steep and turn halfway up.

You really can walk to most things. In five minutes you're in the village centre. There's a shop, a couple of pubs that do food, tea rooms, and a fish and chip shop. There's a little stream and the duck pond, and a play park for kids is just up the road.

For walks, you can just step out the door. Dalby Forest is about ten minutes by car for cycling and walking trails. The North York Moors start right there. If you want a steam train, you go to Pickering, which is about four miles. They run through to Whitby.

Scarborough is about half an hour's drive for the beach. Whitby is about the same. York is about 45 minutes if you fancy a city day. Helmsley is close, maybe 20 minutes, with its castle and walled garden.

Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. WiFi. You can bring one dog. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
