Forge Gardens is a bungalow in Thornton le Dale. It's a proper chocolate box village, but the cottage itself is quite straightforward. It's on a little island, with a stream running around it. The garden is the main thing. It's a good, long lawn that runs right next to the water.
It sleeps four people in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well looked after and comfortable. Everything is on one level, which makes it easy. It's also wheelchair accessible.
The living room has a wood burner. It works well and there's a basket of logs. There's a decent sized kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine.
You're right in the village. There's a shop about 25 yards away and a pub about 50 yards. Both are perfectly good. The pub serves food. If you want a treat, the chocolate factory is just behind the cottage.
Thornton le Dale is a good starting point. You're on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Dalby Forest is close for walking or cycling. Pickering is three miles away. It's a normal market town with a supermarket, and it's where you get the North York Moors Railway steam train to Whitby.
The coast is about half an hour's drive. Scarborough, Filey, and Whitby are all easy to get to. Whitby is probably the most interesting, with the abbey and the old town.
York is an hour west. It's worth a day trip if you've never been. The Minster and the Shambles are the main things to see.
Facilities are all there: parking, wifi, bedding and towels are included. It's a pet-friendly cottage, so you can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed.
For planning, the North York Moors National Park website is useful. So is the English Heritage site for places like Whitby Abbey and Scarborough Castle.
