Tranmire Cottage is in Lastingham. It's at the top of the village, down a lane. You get a lawned garden and there's a shared paddock beyond it. The views are just fields and moors.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One's an ensuite to the main bedroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place is done up to a good standard, it's comfortable and clean. The stairs are typical old cottage stairs, a bit steep and winding.
The main bedroom has a freestanding bath in it, which is unusual. It's a roll top bath with a shower over it. The kitchen is decent, you can cook proper meals in there. There's underfloor heating downstairs and an open fire in the living room. You can get eggs from the hens if you like.
There's a pub in the village, The Blacksmith's Arms. They do good food and have a big beer garden. Dogs are allowed out there. The village has a historic church and some wells. You can walk from the cottage to Hutton-le-Hole in about forty minutes. That's a nice circular walk. Hutton-le-Hole has a bakery, a couple of tea rooms, and the Ryedale Folk Museum.
For bigger shops, you've got Kirkbymoorside about four miles away, or Helmsley which is seven. Pickering is about eight miles. The North York Moors are right there for walking. The heritage railway runs from Pickering through to Whitby. North York Moors National Park has good walking route information.
If you want a day out, Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle are close. Castle Howard is about half an hour's drive. The coast at Whitby or Robin Hood's Bay is roughly 45 minutes away. York is about an hour if you fancied it.
Facilities: parking for two cars on the drive, wifi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. You can bring up to three dogs. The garden is enclosed.
