Blacksmiths Cottage

Blacksmiths Cottage is in Gillamoor. It's a small village just outside Kirkbymoorside. The cottage is detached, which is nice. It used to be the blacksmith's shop.

It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. Everything's on the ground floor, so no stairs to worry about. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well kept. The main thing is the fireplace in the living area, which is the original forge. It's a proper feature. They've kept the beams and the brickwork.

The living space is all open plan. Kitchen, dining, and sitting area together. It's compact, but it works for two people. The bedroom is a good size with a double bed. The bathroom has a shower.

There's a pub in the village, about two minutes' walk away. They do food. Kirkbymoorside is three miles down the road for shops and more places to eat.

Gillamoor is known for the 'surprise view' on the edge of the village. You walk out and suddenly get a big panorama over Douthwaite Dale towards the moors. It's worth seeing.

For a day out, Helmsley is about fifteen minutes by car. It's a nice little market town with a castle. The North York Moors are right there. You can drive up onto the moors for walks in half an hour. Rievaulx Abbey and Nunnington Hall are both within a twenty-minute drive. The coast, like Whitby or Scarborough, is about forty-five minutes away.

Facilities: there's parking, a woodburning stove, TV, and bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog.
