The Wests
The Wests is in Spaunton, which is right in the middle of the North York Moors National Park. It's one of two converted barns around a small courtyard. You get a good view south over the fields from the cottage.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after. Everything's on the ground floor, which is handy.
There's a patio area with a table and chairs for you, and a shared bit of lawn out the front. You can park right outside. It's enclosed, so dogs are alright. We take two.
The pub is about a fifteen minute walk across the fields. It's a proper local. The nearest shop for basics is about five miles away in Kirkbymoorside, so it's best to come with what you need.
For walking, you just step out the door. The Moors are right there. Hutton-le-Hole is a mile or so away, it's a nice walk and has the Ryedale Folk Museum. Pickering is about seven miles. You can get the North York Moors Railway from there to Goathland or Whitby.
Helmsley is about twenty minutes by car. It's got a castle, a walled garden, and Duncombe Park. Castle Howard and Rievaulx Abbey are within half an hour. The coast at Whitby is about forty minutes drive.
Inside, it's open plan. There's a kitchen area, a sitting area with a TV, and the bedroom is off that. There's a shower room. It's got WiFi, a washing machine, and included bedding and towels. We can put up a travel cot if you need one.
