The Haybarn is in Thorgill, which is a bit up from Rosedale Abbey. It's a big place, sleeps ten. Five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. That's the main thing really.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, and everything works. The stairs are standard.
Downstairs you've got a big living room with a wood burner and sofas. The kitchen table seats everyone. There's a separate games room with a TV for games and some board games. Outside, there's a patio with a table and chairs, then a big open field behind it.
Rosedale Abbey village is about a mile and a half away. It's got a couple of pubs that do food, a village shop, and a café. Good for a pint or if you need milk.
You can walk straight out from the door. The old ironstone railway track is a good, flat path for walking or cycling. The moorland is all around. For cycling, Dalby Forest is about a 20-minute drive. They do cycle hire and have walking trails.
Pickering is about a 20-minute drive. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam trains go from there to Whitby. Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, they're all within half an hour if you want the coast.
Facilities wise: it's all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, parking for a few cars. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring two dogs.
If you're planning walks or days out, the North York Moors National Park site has maps and routes.
