This is Dunmallet. It's in Pooley Bridge, which is a small village at the top of Ullswater.
It's a three-bedroom cottage that sleeps six. There are two bathrooms, which is handy. We accept up to two dogs. It's a 4 Star place, which means it's well equipped and well looked after.
The main thing about the cottage is the garden. It's about 100 feet long. A little river, the River Eamont, runs along the bottom of it. You can sit out there and listen to the water. There's also a hot tub.
Inside, the living room has a wood burner for cooler evenings. The stairs are fairly standard, not especially steep. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine.
Pooley Bridge itself has a couple of pubs and shops. You can walk to the lake from the cottage in a few minutes. The Ullswater Steamers leave from there. You can get a boat to Glenridding or Howtown from the pier.
For walking, you can do the Aira Force waterfall walk, which starts about a ten minute drive away. For bigger hills, the Helvellyn range is accessible. You can drive to the foot of some of those routes in about twenty minutes.
Dalemain Mansion and its gardens are a five minute drive up the road. Lowther Castle is about fifteen minutes by car. If the weather's bad, the Rheged Centre near Penrith has a cinema and a café, that's about twenty minutes away.
