Cottage At Brathen

This is Cottage at Brathen in Greystoke. It’s a barn conversion on a quiet lane, a bit set back from the road.

It sleeps five, in three bedrooms. There’s one bathroom with a shower. It’s a 4 Star place, so it’s comfortable. The layout is upside-down. The bedrooms are on the ground floor, and the living area is upstairs. That means you get a nice view from the kitchen table over the lane and fields. The stairs are fine, just a typical cottage spiral.

The living space is all open-plan up there, with a kitchen, dining area, and sitting room. A door leads out to a small, enclosed garden. It's south-facing and catches the sun. There’s parking for one car right outside.

Greystoke is a quiet village. There’s a green, a shop, and a pub. The pub does food. There’s also a community-run outdoor swimming pool that’s open in the summer. Yes, there is a Greystoke Castle.

For getting out, you’re about a fifteen-minute drive from Ullswater. You can get to the lake at Pooley Bridge or Glenridding. Aira Force waterfall is on the Ullswater side too. Penrith is about ten minutes the other way if you need supermarkets or the train station.

You’re right on the edge of the Lake District National Park here. For walking, you can pick up footpaths from the village itself that head into the hills. For a drive, you can get to Keswick and Derwentwater in under half an hour. Thirlmere and the northern fells are about the same.

Facilities included are bedding, towels, WiFi, a TV, dishwasher, and the parking. Sorry, no pets.
