Smithy House is in Stainton, a village just outside Penrith. It's an old house from the 1700s, on the village green. Sleeps six, three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-finished.
The layout is a bit unusual. The main bedroom is downstairs. It's got a king size bed and a big cast-iron bathtub right in the bedroom itself. There's a separate toilet just off it. Upstairs, there's another king size room with a four-poster bed and a shower cubicle and basin in the corner. The third room is a twin. There's a separate family shower room upstairs too.
Downstairs there's a living room with a wood burner and a good sized kitchen-diner. The kitchen has an Esse range cooker and a normal electric oven as well. There's a dishwasher, coffee machine, that sort of thing.
Outside there's an enclosed garden with rattan furniture and parking on site.
The village has a pub. Penrith is a few minutes drive for supermarkets and shops. You're right on the edge of the Lake District here. Ullswater is about a 15 minute drive. You can get a steamer from there. Lowther Castle is close by for a walk around the grounds.
For wider planning, the Lake District National Park site is useful. National Trust Lake District has information on their places like Aira Force waterfall.
Facilities: Wifi, TV, washing machine, bedding and towels included. One well-behaved dog is allowed. The stairs are typical for an old house, so they're a bit steep and turn a corner.
