Black Pan Holiday Cottage
Black Pan Holiday Cottage is in Lake, on the Isle of Wight. It’s a ground floor apartment, attached to our house. You get your own enclosed garden out the back. It’s a one-bedroom place, sleeps two.
It’s a 4 Star rating. It’s small but everything is new and works well. The kitchen is compact but has a dishwasher. The shower is good. The bedroom has a decent double bed and a desk if you need to work.
You access the property off a public pathway called the SS24. It’s not a council road, so it’s unmaintained. Just take it slow when you drive down. It’s fine, you just need to know.
The beach is about a fifteen minute walk. You get to it via some steps from the cliff path, near Lake train station. The walk along the sea wall between Sandown and Shanklin is flat and easy, good for a stroll or a bike ride.
Sandown and Shanklin are both about a mile away in opposite directions. Sandown has the pier, a zoo, and Dinosaur Isle. Shanklin has the Chine, which is a nice wooded ravine to walk through. There’s a shop and a pub 175 yards from the cottage.
We accept up to two dogs. I’ve worked with animals, so I’ve tried to make it practical for dogs. The back garden is enclosed with a lockable gate and has an outside tap.
If you want to explore the island, Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle are both worth a visit and are about a half hour drive. For walking, the National Trust looks after a lot of the coastline here.
Facilities: there’s parking, WiFi, a TV, and all bedding and towels are included.
