Apple Tree Cottage

Apple Tree Cottage is in Lake, between Sandown and Shanklin. It's a detached chalet next to my house. You're totally separate, it's got its own driveway and private garden.

It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's handy because it's all on one level. Walk-in shower. The garden is south-facing and fully enclosed, which is good for dogs. You can bring up to two.

The best thing is the back gate. It opens right onto the cliff top path, so you've got that view over Sandown Bay as soon as you step out. To get to the beach, you go down some steps from that path. That beach at Lake is often quieter than Sandown or Shanklin because it's a bit more of an effort to get to. The sea is good for swimming and surfing there.

The path along the sea wall between Sandown and Shanklin is flat and easy. Good for a walk or a bike ride. Sandown has the pier, amusements, and Dinosaur Isle. Shanklin has the esplanade and the old village with the thatched cottages. Both are a short walk away along the coast.

If you're coming without a car, you can get the train to Lake station. It's a three-minute walk from there.

There's a shop and a pub about a quarter of a mile away. Parking is on the driveway.

For things to do further out, Osborne House is about twenty minutes by car. The Needles is about forty minutes. Useful links if you're planning: National Trust Isle of Wight and Visit Isle of Wight.
