Apple Tree Cottage
Apple Tree Cottage is in Lake, on the Isle of Wight. It's a bungalow, detached from the house next door which is mine. You'll see my place, but the garden is all yours and it's fenced in.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's clean and everything works, but it's not fancy. Because it's a bungalow, there are no stairs to worry about.
The best bit is the back gate. It opens straight onto the cliff path. The view from there over Sandown Bay is really something. You can see the pier.
From that path, steps go down to Lake beach. It's a quieter beach than Sandown or Shanklin because not everyone knows about the steps. The water's good for swimming and surfing. There's a cafe and sometimes a barbecue there in summer.
Shops, a pub, and a restaurant are about a quarter of a mile away. The beach is about 500 yards.
If you're coming without a car, you can get the ferry to Ryde and then the train to Lake station. It's a three minute walk from there.
Things here: there's parking, WiFi, a TV, a washing machine, and bedding is provided. You can bring up to two dogs.
For things to do, Sandown has the pier, amusements, and Dinosaur Isle. Shanklin has the esplanade and the old village with thatched cottages. Further afield, you've got Osborne, Carisbrooke Castle, and the Steam Railway. The sailing is at Cowes and Yarmouth. All of that is within about half an hour's drive.
