Yaverland Beach House is a bungalow right on the beach, just outside Sandown. It's not in a town exactly, it's on its own strip of houses backing onto the dunes. The patio garden goes straight out to the beach path.
It sleeps five people in three bedrooms. One bathroom. It doesn't take pets. It's got a 4 Star rating. Everything's included: bedding, towels, electricity. There's a woodburning stove for cooler nights, a dishwasher, and parking for one car on the drive.
Because it's a bungalow, there are no stairs inside. The main bedroom has sea views. The windows are double-glazed, but you'll hear the sea when it's rough, which can be quite loud. It's a proper beach house, so expect a bit of sand to get tracked in. We leave a brush by the door.
You're about a ten minute walk along the beach into Sandown itself. There's a pub just up the road, the Yaverland Tavern. Sandown has all the usual seafront things: places to eat, amusements, a pier. Dinosaur Isle is a five minute walk away, which is good if you've got kids interested in that sort of thing. The beach here is sandy and very long. It gets busy in peak season but you can always find space.
Shanklin Chine and the old village are about five miles east. Ventnor's about nine miles. Cowes and the ferry to Southampton are a 25 minute drive. You can get to most places on the island within half an hour.
