Old School Mews Too is in Shanklin. It’s one of a pair of cottages, set back where the old school house used to be. You get two bedrooms and two bathrooms, both en-suite, which is handy. It’s got a 4 Star rating, so it’s well kept and modern inside.
The main bedroom has a dressing room with a single fold-up bed in it. That’s fine for a child. The stairs are okay, just a normal flight.
Out the back there’s a garden with a patio, some furniture and a barbecue. The garden gets the sun in the afternoon. Inside, the lounge has patio doors that open onto it.
You’re about a five minute walk from the cliff path. From there you can get down to the beach. The beach is sandy and quite long. The Esplanade has the usual seafront things: amusements, mini golf, places to eat.
Shanklin itself has shops, cafes and pubs. The Old Village part is nice for a wander, with thatched cottages and tea rooms. There’s a bus service and the Island Line train runs to Sandown and Ryde.
If you want to explore, the whole island is within a 30 minute drive. Ventnor Botanical Gardens are about 20 minutes south. Carisbrooke Castle is 15 minutes inland. Osborne House, where Queen Victoria stayed, is just over half an hour away near East Cowes. For a proper seaside trip, The Needles and Alum Bay are about 35 minutes drive.
For facilities: you’ve got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and parking on site. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets.
