Hampton House

Hampton House is on the outskirts of Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. It's a big, detached property that sleeps ten. You turn in through an electric gate and the drive takes about six cars.

It has a five star rating. That means it's well kitted out. There are five bedrooms and each one has its own ensuite bathroom. Four are in the main house, with a big staircase. The master bedroom is quite separate.

There's a separate lodge too, with a kingsize bed and a little kitchen area. Good if a couple wants a bit of space from the main group.

The place has air conditioning, which is rare here. Wifi is fast and covers the whole garden.

The kitchen is a farmhouse style, with a decent laundry room off it. There's a formal dining room that seats eight, and a living room with a fireplace. Through the bifold doors there's a sort of indoor-outdoor room with another kitchen and a BBQ. Steps go from there into the heated swimming pool.

The pool has a shallow ledge with loungers in the water. There's also a hot tub and a gazebo with sofas. A pool table and darts are in a games room. There's an office if you need to work.

The stairs in the main house are grand, so they're a proper flight. Fine for most, just worth noting.

You can bring up to two dogs. Travel cots and a highchair are here if needed.

Bembridge has a shop, a pub, and a beach. It's a quiet end of the island. For sailing and a busier harbour, you'd go to Yarmouth or Cowes, which are about half an hour by car.

The coastal path is good for walks. You can be on the beach in a few minutes drive, or walking on the downs. For a day out, the National Trust at Bembridge Fort is close by. For a bigger trip, the island's coast has a lot to see.

Facilities are all here: bedding and towels are included, there are washing machines and tumble dryers, and plenty of parking.
