The Manor House

The Manor House is in Birchover, which is right in the Peak District. It's a big, old place from the 1600s. It sleeps fourteen people, hence the six bedrooms and six bathrooms.

It's on a 14 acre site we share with a couple of other holiday cottages. There's a shared indoor pool on the estate, plus a sauna and a treatment room. You book slots for that.

The style inside is what they call 'shabby chic'. Lots of wood panelling, beams, some antique furniture. There are stained glass windows and mullion windows. It's not modern, but it's comfortable.

It's a detached house. You get your own garden and patio, which is enclosed. There's parking.

We take up to four dogs. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.

The local pub is about a mile's walk. For shops, you'll need to go to Bakewell, which is about ten minutes by car. They've got markets and places to eat. A good walk from Bakewell is along the River Wye or on the Monsal Trail.

Chatsworth House is about five miles away. It's a full day out. Carsington Water is good for water sports, and Buxton has the Opera House. Both are within half an hour.

For planning, the Peak District National Park site has the best walking and cycling maps. Chatsworth's site is useful for opening times and events.
