Shepherds Retreat

Shepherds Retreat is a shepherds hut on a farm in Little Polgooth, near St Austell. It's detached and just for the two of you, plus one dog if you have one.

It's got a 3 Star rating, which is about right. It's clean and comfortable, but it's compact. The kitchenette has a hob and a small fridge, so you're fine for simple meals. There's a wood burner for cooler evenings and you get the wood for it. The bed is a kingsize with storage underneath. The shower room is a shower cubicle with a toilet.

Outside is your own enclosed garden. There's a table and chairs, a couple of sun loungers, and a swinging seat. There's also a chimenea you can use for heat or as a barbecue. You're on the side of a valley, so the view over the fields is nice.

The village pub, the Polgooth Inn, is about a ten minute walk. For the beach, Pentewan is about three miles. You can walk there on the path through the valley if you don't mind a proper trek.

Cycling is popular here. You can hire bikes locally and get them dropped off. The main cycle trail runs on the old railway line from Pentewan.

Charlestown harbour is about a ten minute drive. It's historic and has a few places to eat. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are very close, maybe five minutes in the car. It's a big, interesting garden to walk around.

If you want to explore, Mevagissey is a proper working fishing port, about fifteen minutes away. The Eden Project is roughly twenty minutes drive.

Facilities: there's parking for one car, WiFi, a Smart TV, bedding and towels are provided. It's on a working farm, so you'll see tractors and sometimes hear animals.
