The Miners Cottage
The Miners Cottage is in Loftus, up on the cliff top. It's an old terrace cottage, built in the 1880s. It sleeps four, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well looked after.
You get a good view over the fields from the front. The living space is open plan, so the kitchen, dining and sitting area are all together. It's a simple layout. The stairs are steep, like most old cottages.
The main bedroom has a view out to the sea. The second bedroom has twin beds. The bathroom has a shower cubicle with an electric shower. The water pressure is fine, but it's not a powerful shower.
Outside, there's a small enclosed courtyard with seating. It's a suntrap.
It's about a ten minute walk down to the beach at Skinningrove. It's a pebble and sand beach, quite quiet. The Cleveland Way path runs along the coast here. Loftus itself is a small market town. There's a shop and a pub about a mile away.
Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a short drive up the coast. They've got a pier, a funicular railway, and a long sandy beach. Staithes is the other way, with its cobbled streets and harbour. Whitby is about half an hour's drive. It's good for the Abbey, fish and chips, and wandering around the harbour.
You're right on the edge of the North York Moors. The North York Moors National Park website has walking routes and information. The steam railway runs from Pickering to Whitby, with a stop at Goathland.
The cottage has a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry. Parking is on the street outside.
