Flither Cottage

Flither Cottage is in Staithes, down in one of the older parts of the village. It's a terraced fisherman's cottage from the 1800s. It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean but not modernised to a high standard. It's got the character you'd expect from an old place.

The stairs are quite steep and narrow, typical for a cottage like this. There's one proper bathroom with a shower. You get a small walled yard out the back with seating, which overlooks the beck.

It's a two minute walk to the shops and pubs. The local pub does food. The beach is about a five minute walk down the hill. The village car park is at the top of the hill, and you do need to pay to park there. That's where you'd unload. We allow one well-behaved dog.

Facilities include a woodburning stove for colder evenings, WiFi, a TV, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot if you need one.

Staithes itself is a proper old fishing village with cobbled lanes. You can watch the boats go out. There's a small Captain Cook Museum here. For a longer walk, you can pick up the Cleveland Way coastal path right from the village. It goes north to Saltburn or south towards Whitby, past Runswick Bay.

Whitby is about a 20 minute drive. It's got the abbey, plenty of shops, and that sort of thing. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is about 20 minutes the other way, with its cliff lift and a long sandy beach. The cottage is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, so you can easily get inland for walks or a trip on the North York Moors Railway.
