Pheasant Lodge is a single-storey place in Staithes. It sleeps two, one bedroom, one bathroom. It got refurbished a few years back so it's fresh, but it's not huge. You get your own parking spot which is handy, because parking in the village is tricky.
It's down the bottom of a steep hill. That's fine for getting to the cottage, but coming back up with shopping is a bit of a pull. The beck runs past the end of the garden. It's nice to hear the water.
Staithes itself is good. It's a proper old fishing village, cobbles and alleys. There's a shop, a couple of pubs that do food, and some tea rooms. The beach is sandy but it's rocky too, so watch your step. The lifeboat station is still active, which is interesting to see.
For walking, the Cleveland Way path is right there on the cliffs. The views back over the village are the best ones. You can walk along to places like Runswick Bay. Whitby is about a twenty minute drive. That's where you'll find the Abbey and more shops. The North York Moors are inland if you fancy a change from the coast.
Facilities: it's got WiFi, a TV, a shower, and all the bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. The courtyard is enclosed, but it's small. It's fine for a dog to have a sniff around.
