Thistle-Doo Nicely

Thistle-Doo is in Staithes, which is a small fishing village between Whitby and Saltburn. It's a four storey cottage, very tall and narrow. The name is a bit of a joke because it suits the place. It's in a high spot, so you get a good look out over the harbour and the rooftops from the top floor.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean. The stairs are the main thing to know about. They're quite steep and they twist round, typical for an old cottage like this. Just take your time on them.

You're right in the village, so everything is close. The beach is about a hundred yards down the hill. There are shops and a couple of pubs within a minute's walk. They're proper local pubs.

For bigger shops, Whitby is about ten miles south. That's where the Abbey is and the Captain Cook museum. Saltburn is the other way, about eight miles north, with its cliff lift and long pier.

You're on the edge of the North York Moors National Park here. So walking straight from the door is easy, along the coast or inland. The Cleveland Way path runs through. There's also the heritage railway from Pickering to Whitby if you like steam trains.

What's included: WiFi, a TV, bedding and towels are all there. There's a shower, no bath. The electricity and utilities are covered. You can bring up to two dogs. The property listing says coastal access is there, which just means you can walk to the sea easily.
