Fern House

Fern House is in Hinderwell. It’s a terrace cottage from the village back up towards the hills, so you look out over the rooftops toward the coast. It sleeps eight, four bedrooms, two bathrooms.

The layout is over three floors. There's a living room on the ground floor, kitchen and dining on the first floor, then bedrooms on the top two floors. That means a few steps between rooms. The stairs are typical for an old cottage: a bit steep and narrow in places.

It’s a 4 Star rating, which means it’s well kept and comfortable. There’s a wood burner in the living room. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. The garden is enclosed and gets the afternoon sun.

Hinderwell has a village shop, a fish and chip shop, a café in the old schoolhouse, and a pub. They’re all within a few minutes' walk.

For the coast, Runswick Bay is about a thirty minute walk downhill, or a couple of minutes in the car. It's a good sandy beach. Staithes is a ten minute drive north, Whitby is fifteen minutes south. Both are worth a visit. The Cleveland Way path runs along the cliffs here if you’re walking.

Inland, you’re right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. For a day out, the heritage steam railway runs from Whitby into the Esk Valley.

Parking is on site for two cars. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and highchair if needed. No pets.
