Water Bailiffs Lodge is in Lumsdale, just outside Matlock. It's the west wing of an old mill owner's house, from the 1700s. You get 16 acres of grounds to share with one other cottage, so there's plenty of space. There's parking for four cars.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bathroom is downstairs with a corner bath, and there's an upstairs shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's been restored, so you get the old beams and a wood burner mixed with newer things.
The location is quiet. You look out over fields towards Riber Castle. There's a stream and old mill ponds right there. The area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can walk straight from the door.
Matlock town centre is about a mile. There's a shop, a pub, and restaurants there. The Peak District National Park starts pretty much on the doorstep. Matlock Bath is two miles away, known for the illuminations. Bakewell is about 20 minutes by car. Chatsworth House is maybe 25 minutes.
Inside, there's a living room with the wood burner, a farmhouse kitchen with a dishwasher, and a utility room with a washing machine. There's a reading area with a sofa bed. The stairs are original, so they're cottage stairs. The master bedroom is a good size.
Outside, there's a patio and a BBQ. The grounds are shared but very large. You can sit out or the kids can run about.
Facilities include all bedding and towels, a cot, a highchair, WiFi, and TV. You can bring up to two dogs.
